Why This Exists

Welcome to a website that probably shouldn’t need to exist! This is a (somewhat) hand-curated database of malware-spreading videos on YouTube. You know, the world’s largest search engine and a platform owned by one of the wealthiest tech companies on Earth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doesn’t YouTube have content moderation?

Yes! They have both AI systems and human moderators. The AI is excellent at making mistakes, and the humans are excellent at upholding those mistakes during the appeal process. It’s a beautifully efficient system where the wrong content gets removed while malware videos slip through with kid-friendly thumbnails and innocuous tags.

Wait, YouTube doesn’t remove malware videos?

They do! Eventually. Sometimes. Maybe. After they’ve been viewed and infected countless devices. YouTube’s automated systems are remarkably good at removing educational content or channels about Security Research but actual malware? That’s apparently an “extreme needle in a haystack” situation.

Shouldn’t YouTube be doing this instead?

Yes.

What do you hope to accomplish?

Shame. Public, well-documented shame.

Can I help?

If you’ve found malware-spreading videos on YouTube, you can report them to YouTube (good luck with that). Together, we can document a problem that a trillion-dollar company can’t seem to solve.
